Parents Speak to Your Black Sons

The disappearance and subsequent death of Nolan Xavier Wells is a developing situation. Based on current reporting as of July 6, 2026, here are the verified details regarding this event:

  • Timeline and Circumstances: Nolan Xavier Wells, an 18-year-old student-athlete (wide receiver) at Southwest Mississippi Community College, traveled to Horn Island by boat with a group of friends on July 4, 2026. He was last seen at approximately 3:00 p.m. on the island.

  • Search and Discovery: A massive, multi-agency search was initiated involving the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the United Cajun Navy. On the morning of July 6, 2026, a park ranger discovered a body in the water near the west end of Horn Island. Local authorities stated the remains matched the description of Wells. His family has since publicly confirmed on social media that the body found is Nolan.

  • Investigation: The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and the Coroner’s Office are handling the investigation. While the family and authorities await formal DNA identification and further findings, officials have indicated there is no reason to believe the remains belong to anyone else. There has been no official statement from law enforcement regarding the circumstances leading to his death or the actions of those who accompanied him.

  • Social Media Reports

At some point during the excursion, the three white male friends he was traveling with took possession of his cellphone. The phone was later recovered and returned to his parents.

High-school friends of the other three white males who accompanied Wells to the island, encouraged law-enforcement to look into them as they have historically engaged in questionable behavior. The mother of one of the boys is a judge. All three friends now have attorneys.
